- David Calow - Associate Conductor

David Calow was born and educated in Leicestershire, receiving his early musical training from the Leicestershire School of Music where he played flute in the Senior Concert Band. He was also a member of The National Youth Wind Orchestra from 1978-84, under the baton of Harry Legge, a renowned expert on the Symphonic Band repertoire. After graduating in Graphics at Leeds in 1983, David returned to Leicester and now runs a design and Illustration studio.
David has been Music Director and Conductor of the Bardi Wind Orchestra since 1994. It now has an enviable reputation with the annual Christmas concert and the Summer Charity Gala concert in Leicester’s De Montfort Hall attracting large and enthusiastic audiences. June 2009 will see David conducting the orchestra in the official concert to celebrate the opening of the Special Olympics in Leicester.
In 1995 David took up the position of Music Director of the Leicester Royal Infirmary-based I.D.O.L.S Operatic Group for their production of “South Pacific” and over the following ten years directed “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”, “Oklahoma!”,“The King and I”, “Guys & Dolls”, “Mack and Mabel”, “Anything Goes” and “Kiss Me Kate”. David also worked with the production team and cast on 3 original shows and the critically acclaimed Leicester Little Theatre premiere of “The Best Little Whore House in Texas”.
David also continues to play flute and piccolo with the Bardi Symphony Orchestra, Rutland Sinfonia and the Trio “Tea for Three” with Robert Calow and Marguerite Beatson.
