If you are a regular supporter of the Rutland Sinfonia, then you will know that the orchestra is on extremely good form. We continue to present a mixture of familiar and well known repertoire while always striving to create a sense of occasion an excitement at each concert. If you have not been to a Rutland Sinfonia concert then we hope that you will be encouraged to come along.
During the 2010-11 season we welcome back three soloists who have appeared to popular acclaim during the last few years. In the first concert Roger Swann will be playing a horn concerto by Franz Strauss (father of the more well-known composer Richard Strauss). This will be a fascinating opportunity to hear how a father influenced his son (especially when one realises that Richard later wrote concertos for his father!). David Calow will also be conducting Dvorak's 'New World' Symphony in this concert, given in support of the charity HOPE.
Amy Littlewood performs Prokofiev's violin concerto No.1 during November, This is a real masterpiece, which when paired with Sibelius' popular and powerful 2nd Symphony is guaranteed to produce a concert of high drama in fabulous acoustic of Oundle Parish Church.
Following the huge success of last seasons young Soloists' concert, the orchestra will be joined again in March by three more pupils from Oakham School. The works they have chosen are framed by two Elgar pieces – the rarely performed Imperial March and the Enigma Variations. Then in our final concert Carol Barker continues are Beethoven Piano Concerto Series and we end in spectacular style with Saint Saens' Organ Symphony.
It's gong to be a tremendous season.
